Dr. Selwyn Vickers
  • Selwyn Vickers, MD

  • Dr. Vickers serves as the Principal Investigator for the Center for Healthy African American Men through Partnerships (CHAAMPS).  He is the Senior Vice President and Dean and holder of the James C. Lee Jr. Endowed Chair in medical leadership of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School (UAB).  Previously, Dr. Vickers was the Jay Phillips Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota.   Dr. Vickers is a nationally recognized leader in both academic surgery and pancreatic disease and a clinical scientist with more than 150 peer-reviewed publications. He has had significant contributions in patient care and in laboratory investigation.  He is currently the PI/Co-PI on the UAB/UMN Pancreatic Cancer SPORE; U24 Enhancing Minority Participating in Clinical Trials and U54 Center for Healthy African American Men through Partnerships grants. After joining the UAB faculty from Johns Hopkins where he trained both as a hepatobiliary surgeon and surgical oncologist, he was an active leader in the cancer center.  Among his many national leadership roles, Dr. Vickers is a member of the Institute of Medicine, chair of the American Board of Surgeons Committee on Socioeconomic Issues and past president of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, Director of the American Board of Surgery and President Elect of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Badrinath Konety

  • Badrinath R. Konety, MD, MBA, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology and holds the Dougherty Family Chair in Uro-Oncology as well as being the Director of the Institute for Prostate and Urologic Cancers and Associate Director for Clinical Affairs of the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota. He completed his residency and American Foundation for Urologic Disease Research Scholar fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He also received an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business. Dr. Konety also completed his urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He has authored or co-authored nearly 200 original publications and numerous book chapters as well as editing a text on bladder cancer. He has been and is principal or co-investigator on grants funded through the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, American Geriatrics Society and Center for Disease Control. He received the Jahnigen Career Development Scholar Award, and is an active member of numerous professional medical societies including the American Urological Association, the American College of Surgeons, Societe Internationale D’Urologie and the International College of Surgeons. He is currently the Adjunct General Secretary of the SIU and Associate Editor of the Journal of Urology.

Dr. James M. Shikany

  • Dr. Shikany is a Professor in the Division of Preventive Medicine, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, and is Principal Investigator of the Center for Healthy African American Men through Partnerships (CHAAMPS).  He arrived at UAB in 1993, after earning a Public Health doctorate from the UCLA School of Public Health, with a specialization in Nutrition.  Dr. Shikany is a Senior Scientist in the Comprehensive Center for Healthy Aging, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center at UAB.  His research interests center on the association between diet and the epidemiology and prevention of chronic disease, including cancer and cardiovascular disease, with current and previous research funding from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Society.  Dr. Shikany has been active in disparities research, recently leading the NIH-funded Alabama Collaboration for Cardiovascular Equality, which addresses racial disparities in cardiovascular disease.  In addition, several of his previous and current studies seek ways to improve dietary assessment methodology, especially in neglected populations, such as rural African Americans.  Dr. Shikany has authored nearly 140 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Mark Alexander
  • Mark Alexander, PhD, MPH

  • Dr. Alexander has been a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of 100 Black Men since 1994, and has served as the Bay Area Chapter’s Board Chairman for the past four years. He served as Chairman of the National Health and Wellness Committee for 100 Black Men of America, and currently serves as Secretary of the 100’s National Executive Committee. Dr. Alexander is the former Assistant Director of the Medical Effectiveness Research Center for Diverse Populations, University of California at San Francisco and is a cardiovascular epidemiologist. He is the founder and Chairman, Board of Directors for the Community School for black boys/young men in Oakland, California. Dr. Alexander obtained his masters and doctoral degrees in public health from the University of California, Berkeley.

Kevin Warren
  • Kevin Warren, JD, MBA

  • Kevin is the Vikings’ Vice President of Legal Affairs & Chief Administrative Officer, with responsibility for various day-to-day business, operational and administrative issues, legal affairs, strategic planning, human resources, and special projects, while also serving as a member of the Vikings’ internal stadium development deal team.  Kevin is the highest-ranking African-American executive working on the business side for a team in the NFL.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University, his master’s degree from Arizona State University, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Notre Dame School of Law.  Kevin is licensed with State Bar of Kansas, Michigan and Minnesota.  In 2014, Kevin enters his 16th season in the NFL and his 10th season with the Vikings.

  • Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Davidson, DMIN, MDIV

  • Dr. Davidson is the Senior Pastor of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Normal, Alabama; Master of Biblical Studies from Heritage Bible College in Huntsville, Alabama; Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama; and a Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis in Black Church Leadership from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has studied at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas; abroad at the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies.  Dr. Davidson is a gospel recording artist; entrepreneur; former columnist, South Florida Times; former Executive Committee Member, former Assistant Treasurer, former Budget Committee Member, and former member of the Consortium of Young Pastors of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; Vice President, Southeast Region of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education; Chairman of the Board of Directors, former Secretary, Administrative Committee Member, Website Committee Member, and Board Member of the National USA Foundation, Inc.; former Board of Trustees Member at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida; a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and a member of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Alpha Rho Boule.  He has served and continues to serve in the community on various committees and organizations.  He has received numerous accolades and prestigious awards.
